Methods for Weighting Decisions to Assist Modelers and Decision Analysts: A Review of Ratio Assignment and Approximate Techniques

Computational models and simulations often involve representations of decision-making processes. Numerous methods exist for representing at varied resolution levels based on the objectives simulation desired level fidelity validation. Decision making relies type decision criteria that is appropriate decision; therefore, makers can reach unique decisions meet their own needs given same information. Accounting personalized weighting scales help to reflect a more realistic state modeled system. To this end, article reviews summarizes eight multi-criteria analysis (MCDA) techniques serve as options reaching personally individually ranked criteria. These are organized into taxonomy ratio assignment approximate techniques, strengths limitations each explored. We compare these potential uses across Agent-Based Modeling (ABM), System Dynamics (SD), Discrete Event Simulation (DES) modeling paradigms inform current researchers, students, practitioners state-of-the-art enable new researchers utilize decisions.
